How do I approach my work?

The field of I/O Psychology speaks to me because of the opportunity to improve our day-to-day lives by improving our experiences at work. I have consistently advocated for employees to have the support they need to be the best versions of themselves. As such, I have several years of academic and applied experience leading research teams, executing multi-year research projects, providing analytical support, supporting undergraduate Psychology and Statistics classes, and driving and facilitating effective evidence-based strategic planning.

I am heavily involved in professional member associations; have secured numerous speaking engagements; conduct professional development workshops for undergraduate and graduate students as well as career professionals; and mentor students and early-career professionals. I also enjoy trying new eateries, watching and playing soccer, and I ask as many questions off-the-clock as I do on it.

What is Industrial/Organizational Psychology?

Industrial/Organizational (I/O) Psychology is the scientific study of employee behavior and the organizational systems with which employees interact! It involves leveraging evidence-based practices and varied skill sets to augment key organizational concerns across the employee life cycle such as designing a hiring system, evaluating the effectiveness of a training program, or developing a performance management system.

I/O Psychologists typically receive rigorous training in organizational theory, research methods, statistics, and psychometrics (i.e., survey design and validation). They can be found in many organizational functions, such as Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Learning & Development, People Analytics, People Science, & Performance Management, or in broad Human Resources roles. Some example job titles they might have include:

  • People Research Scientist

  • Human Capital Consultant

  • Personnel Research Psychologist

  • Organizational Development Specialist

  • Director of Talent Management
